PET Programs

Dog Programs

Grant County, with its remote location and economic challenges, can be a difficult place for dogs.

There are simply too few suitable homes for the number of litters produced each year, and there is no animal shelter or holding facility for unwanted or lost dogs. The winters are harsh, and the highways are dangerous.

That’s where Hope4Paws steps in for the dogs!
When a dog is reported as stray, we make a concerted effort to locate the owner. If no owner is found, we have a small network foster homes to house the dogs until they can be rehomed.

Hope4Paws also works with local vet clinics to help find homes for adoptable dogs facing euthanasia because their owners can no longer care for them.

Hope4Paws does not operate a shelter and doesn’t have the budget or facilities to accept dog surrenders directly from owners. However, we can refer owners to shelters and placement agencies outside the local area that may be able to help.

The amount of rescue work we do depends entirely on funding and the willingness of the community – you and your neighbors – to help out. Foster homes are a critical need.
Cat Programs

Cats allowed to breed at will create problems in communities, and set up a cycle of unwanted litters and feral cat colonies in our neighborhoods.

Here’s how Hope4Paws seeks to address these problems:

  • Prevention! Through education and awareness efforts, we encourage all pet owners to spay/neuter their cats and dogs. We also make it more affordable through our spay/neuter assistance programs.
  • TNR – Trap Neuter Return is an effective way to curb feral cat colonies, but unfortunately it is also costly and requires significant volunteer time. As grant funding and manpower allow, our volunteers conduct TNR operations in problem areas with the cooperation of the neighbors.
  • Foster for abandoned kittens, as foster home space allows. Kittens are adopted out through a partner shelter outside the area that can provide medical checks and treatment at a low cost.
  • Community Cats. This food assistance program provides food on an emergency basis to residents caring for stray cats or TNR colonies near their homes.
CAN YOU HELP?
For all of these programs, we rely on the generosity of our supporters and community. Donations may be made through this website or in the donation cans on counters of businesses throughout the Grant County communities. Thank you for your help!
